Several of our staff are raising funds for NHS Charities Together, the charity for NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
This is the charity supported by Captain (now Colonel) Tom Moore, the 100 year old veteran who has captured the nation’s heart by walking 100 lengths of his back garden.
NHS staff and volunteers are doing amazing work right now in caring for COVID-19 patients. Together, let’s show our respect and gratitude as they work tirelessly in the face of the virus.
STI is playing a key role in the VentilatorChallengeUK consortium tasked with building in excess of 15,000 units to be used in the fight against the virus. As such, the band of staff will be virtually cycling and running the distance between the key businesses involved in ventilator challenge. Also, they will incorporate a virtual trip to Bedford, the home of Captain Tom, and finish the challenge at the home of the temporary NHS Nightingale hospital in London.
In keeping with the current lockdown they will cycle indoors on turbo trainers/spin bikes, on local roads, or run in their back gardens during their daily exercise allowance. The virtual challenge will consist of 7 legs:
Leg 1 Airbus (Broughton) to MOD Donnington – 53 miles
Leg 2 MOD Donnington to Bedford (Capt. Tom Moore’s location) – 107 miles
Leg 3 Bedford (Capt. Tom Moore’s Location) to Penlon (Abingdon) – 54 miles
Leg 4 Penlon (Abingdon) to STI (Hook) – 46 miles
Leg 5 STI (Hook) to McLaren (Woking) – 22 miles
Leg 6 McLaren (Woking) to Ford (Dagenham) – 60 miles
Leg 7 Ford (Dagenham) to – Nightingale Hospital London – 10 miles
